Anti Oxidant Masterbatch is a pelletised additive masterbatch containing primary antioxidant compounds of the hindered phenol type and secondary antioxidant compounds of the phosphite or thioester type, both pre dispersed at controlled concentrations in a PE or PP carrier resin. It is used to protect polymer materials from oxidative degradation during the high temperature conditions of melt processing and during the long term thermal and oxidative exposure conditions of the finished product's service life. Oxidative degradation of polymers is one of the most pervasive and significant causes of quality loss in plastic processing, particularly in recycled material reprocessing, in high temperature compounding operations, and in applications where the finished product is exposed to elevated temperatures or long term heat aging during its service life.The chemistry of polymer oxidation begins at elevated temperatures when oxygen molecules in the melt or in the surrounding air react with vulnerable sites on the polymer backbone, generating hydroperoxide compounds. These hydroperoxides are unstable and decompose to form free radical species, which then propagate through the polymer in a self sustaining chain reaction that breaks polymer chains, generates chromophores responsible for yellowing and discolouration, produces low molecular weight volatile products, and ultimately converts the high molecular weight polymer into a brittle, degraded material with much poorer mechanical properties than the original polymer. This degradation is initiated during the very first processing step and accumulates with each subsequent reprocessing or high temperature exposure event.Anti Oxidant Masterbatch is especially critical in recycled plastics processing because recycled polymer has typically already been processed once, used in service, and in many cases been through a collection, sorting, washing, and repelletising step before reaching the current processor. Each of these steps involves some thermal and oxidative stress that consumes the antioxidant reserves present in the polymer from its original manufacture. By the time the recycled polymer reaches the reprocessing step, its antioxidant reserves are significantly depleted or exhausted, making it far more susceptible to oxidative degradation during reprocessing than virgin polymer of the same type. Adding Anti Oxidant Masterbatch at the reprocessing step replenishes these depleted reserves, protecting the recycled polymer through the current processing step and through the service life of the finished recycled content product.The importance of antioxidant protection is not limited to recycled polymer. In virgin polymer processing at high temperatures or with extended residence time in the extruder, such as during the production of thick profiles, large diameter pipes, or high viscosity compounds that require long processing times, the cumulative oxidative exposure can be significant and require antioxidant supplementation beyond the manufacturer's standard antioxidant package in the virgin resin. Similarly, in products intended for long term use at elevated temperatures, such as hot water pipes, automotive under bonnet components, or industrial equipment parts, the antioxidant loading in the compound must be sufficient to provide protection throughout the expected service life at the operating temperature.
