Disaster Management Training
Price On RequestEmpowering communities with knowledge, skills and support in disaster risk reduction and response is central to any disaster management strategy- as community is always the first responder. Here Community includes ICDS officials, Anganwadi Workers, Helpers, Trade Union representatives, MSW Students. A recognition of human causes of disasters is being integrated in both theory and practice of disaster management. Although it is governments, international agencies and civil society organizations that organise and fund disaster relief and rehabilitation programmes, the role of communities as the prime stakeholders is now recognised across all phases of any disaster and across regions. This approach acknowledges that socioeconomic vulnerabilities of communities in many ways determine the impact of disasters in addition to physical risks. Therefore, there is a need for interventions in reducing vulnerabilities at the community level. A key objective of community-based disaster preparedness is to channel inherent strengths of a community, reduce vulnerabilities and restore dignity through their participation in risk reduction as well as post disaster relief and rehabilitation processes as active citizens. To make CBDP cost-effective, accessible and workable it is essential to build capacities of local communities through education about risks they face, enable access to resources and create or strengthen support mechanisms and develop community-based disaster risk reduction, preparedness and response plans. Disaster Management programme plans help communities to reduce risks and mitigate disasters effectively through a series of action plans that are innovative and rooted in local social, economic and cultural contexts. The thrust of CBDP however is on creating access to resources, protecting shelter and livelihoods, building greater awareness and skills in disaster management, and reducing vulnerabilities. This training programme provides participants an opportunity to work with communities and learn essential skills and knowledge for developing community based disaster management strategies. Through interactive sessions, exercises and simulations participants will learn risk assessment and risk management planning. The programme explains issues in disaster management from developmental perspective, discussing issues of sustainability.
