Door & Letter Plates

Antique satin brass is a living finish that is produced by hand. It is unlacquered so it will oxidise as it is exposed to the air and it will mellow and develop a rich patina with age and use. It can be polished back to achieve a lighter brighter finish or left to age further.

The design of a letter plate typically consists of two main components: a flap or door on the exterior side of the door and an internal plate or housing on the interior side. The flap is hinged to allow it to open outward, providing access for mail delivery. It often features a spring mechanism to ensure it closes securely after use, preventing drafts and maintaining insulation within the building. Materials commonly used in the construction of letter plates include robust metals such as brass, stainless steel, or wrought iron, chosen for their durability and resistance to weathering. These materials are often finished with protective coatings or polished surfaces to enhance their appearance and longevity. Functionally, letter plates provide a convenient and secure means of receiving mail without requiring occupants to open the door, thereby maintaining privacy and security. They are available in various sizes and styles to accommodate different types of mail and architectural aesthetics, from traditional designs to modern interpretations. Installation of a letter plate involves securely mounting it to the door using screws or bolts, ensuring a tight seal around the opening to prevent moisture ingress and maintain the integrity of the door's insulation. Proper installation also ensures smooth operation of the flap and long-term reliability.
