The Line Jack Unit (LJU) is used for terminating Telephone Exchange line and any other voice/non-voice equipment at Subscriber s premises and replace conventional plug/socket and rosette. Unit is manufactured based on the specification No.G/LJU-01/03 July 93. CONSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES: The LJU mainly consists of an ABS moulded box accommodating a PCB and a socket. The socket Profile is made to accommodate a plug of ISO standard with self locking shutter. A Condensor of not less than 2.2 uf is used across the exchange line to facilitate click test from the test desk to Telephone Exchange. A resistance of 20 K Ohms is used to provide time constant in relation to the above capacitor. A gas discharge tube is used across the line to protect the subscriber s instrument from high surge, lightening etc. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: i. Jack/Plug : To ISO Standard ii. Insulation Resistance: More than 100 M Ohms at room temperature measured at 250 VDC. iii. Contact Resistance: Not exceeding 0.1 Ohm with interface jack and plug. iv. Dielectric Strength: Leakage current not more than 100 micro ampere between any two isolated terminal at 1000 V RMS. v. Dimension: 75x75x35 mm.

LINE JACK UNIT is fixed at subscribers point for easy termination of the Line to the Instrument without using any mechanical tool. Line can be tested at Exchange with the help of LJU.The Line Jack Unit has two primary parts.1. Female connector unit called the Line Jack Unit socket.2. Telephone cord connector with RJ-11 plug. Primary Line Jack Unit The unit compromise of printed circuit board on which electronic components are mounted.a) Capacitorb) Resistorc) Surge voltage protection deviced) Screw in type terminal block.e) Socket outlet enabling the unit to be connected to a telephone or other equipment. The circuit board is mounted to a high grade plastic front cover assembly which contains a shutter assembly to prevent in grass of dust and insects.To complete the assembly, a back box is provided enabling the unit to be mounted on a wall or other suitable fixtures. Secondary Line Jack Unit The unit is physically is same as Primary Line Jack Unit but contains no electronic components. It is used in conjunction with a Primary Line jack Unit as an extension to the same line and because it is wired in a parallel, the component in the Primary Line Jack Unit acts in the same way in subsequent Secondary Line Jack Unit thus enabling equipment to operate in any Secondary Line Jack Unit with or without equipment connected to the Primary Line Jack Unit.

Line Jack Unit provides the termination point to the exchange line just before the instrument. It replaces the rosette of 3-pin socket. Two versions of Line Jack Units, Viz. Primary and secondary jacks, exist. Primary Line Jack provides diagnostic and surge voltage protection facilities, whereas the Secondary Line Jack Unit is without these facilities.
