The company is supported by a team of highly experienced and talented individuals sourced from the mining industry. The company's first venture into the South African continent was the acquisition of greenfield coal mines in the Mpumalanga Province, located in the Bethal district. The project is located in proximity to several coal-fired power stations and has road, rail and power infrastructure running within 50 kilometres of the project. Together with the global demand for coal (rising by an annual average of 4%), this mine is set to be highly profitable.

Vulcan manufactures supply fabricated components like Dipper Handle, Dippers (Buckets), Saddle Block, Crawler Frame, Boom for Rope Shovels Tubs, Buckets for Draglines. Fabricated components carries heavy load under severe working conditions. Vulcan understands it very well. Latest computer software with 3D modeling is used for stimulation of the component to identify possible stress points so that corrective measures can be taken to avoid possible fatigue failure during operation. Significant aspect of these components is that they should be lighter in weight to optimize machine capacity efficiency, and at the same time it should have high strength to avoid fatigue failures. Dippers (Buckets) not only go under continuous fluctuating load but also have to withstand against abrasion. Selection of right grade of material plays important role in long trouble free operation of these components. Vulcan uses special grade low alloy steel which are lighter in weight but have high tensile strength to meet the above requirement. Welding is carried out by qualified welders with approved welding procedures. Stress relieving is done by thermal/vibration method. Stringent Quality control practices like dye penetration, X ray, UT other NDT tests are carried out at every stage of welding. Precision machining is carried out on latest technology CNC machines to achieve high accuracies for proper fitment smooth operation eliminating possibility of failure. Tubs are manufactured in segments. Controlled assembly is carried out in the workshop to maintain flatness level of seating surfaces of gear / rail path on tub maintaining coaxially between gear rail (swing) circle with respect to central pintle axis.

Most of the Pneumatic Mining Tool parts are manufactured in Alloy Steel (SAE 4140, SAE 8620, EN19, EN24 etc). Many of these parts are hardened finish having precise accuracy and complex operations as well. We have been producing straight & spiral splines parts on VMC machines without using any broach. The sizes of the splines are perfectly maintained. For achieving perpendicularity, concentrically & parallelism more precisely and repeatedly we use to finish the hard parts up to 62 HRC hardness by turning on CNC turning center. This helps us to eliminate grinding operations and to rely on the repeatability of precise dimensions. While in process all the parts are checked and record is maintained for future references. The tolerances of these parts are between 0.010 to 0.050 mm and some dimensions are within 0.005 to 0.008 mm. These parts are supplied to OEM company as per their drawings.
