Network Monitoring is becoming common business practice across all network. Network and security professionals monitor their networks for a variety of reasons: To improve network security. To improve network uptime, and thus provide access to business applications. For capacity planning and improving end user SLAs. There are a variety of monitoring systems that customers use, such as: Intrusion Detection Systems: to detect unauthorized intrusions and attacks (both external and internal) on the company s critical assets. Forensics systems: to identify the source of the intrusion, and possibly initiate legal action. Content inspection: to enforce corporate policy and prevent employees from accessing unauthorized web sites, such as pornographic web sites and gambling sites during work hours. Network analyzers for network troubleshooting. Rmon probes and other home grown systems, for collecting data for capacity planning and improving end user SLAs. Network monitoring provides significant benefits to organizations, however it comes with a high cost and a few deployment challenges.
Designed with reliability in mind the dual power supplies, fan
modules and a comprehensive range of expansion modules help maintain and
reconfigure when needed, without affecting network uptime.
Overview
Low latency and wirespeed L3 routing in a compact 3 rack unit device
Simplify management tasks by managing the stack as a single node on the network
Supports up to 8 high-speed expansion bays; stackable
Maintain and reconfigure without effecting network uptime
Create a single "virtual chassis" from two physical devices
These modules are placed between removable cables in the system, in the same way as Cable-Pull modules. As well as breaking the cable connection, we can now swap one device/host for another. The switches operate at Layer 1. They re-drive the signal, but do not retime or modify data in any way. As such, they are almost identical to having devices directly connected with a cable. They allow automatic reconfiguration of the system under test. Hosts and devices can be reconnected as required. Most of the switches also support Port Forwarding , allowing data from one port to be perfectly copied to another (perhaps to an analyser). Most switches can be directly controlled via USB and LAN. Most also have a Torridon port for connection to a separate controller.
