Dry grapes for confectionery many more uses for human consumption

Fresh raisins are actually grapes that are dried to become raisins, so when you refer to "fresh raisins," it typically means freshly harvested grapes that are in the process of becoming raisins. However, "fresh raisins" might be a bit of a misnomer, as they are typically enjoyed in their dried form. But, if we re talking about different types of raisins, here's a breakdown of some of the popular varieties: 1. Sultanas (Golden Raisins) Appearance: Light golden to yellowish in color. They are often smaller, with a smooth texture. Taste and Texture: Sultanas are sweet and slightly tangy with a juicy, tender texture. Origin: Originally from the Middle East, but now grown in many regions, including Australia and the U.S. Uses: Often used in baking, cooking, or as snacks. Their golden hue makes them popular in trail mixes and granola. 2. Thompson Seedless Raisins Appearance: Dark brown to blackish color, medium-sized and wrinkled. Taste and Texture: These raisins are sweet with a slightly chewy texture. They re often considered the most common type of raisin. Origin: Originated from California, which is one of the largest producers. Uses: Very versatile; used in cooking, baking, salads, and trail mixes. 3. Muscat Raisins Appearance: Large, plump, and usually light amber or golden brown in color. Taste and Texture: Muscat raisins have a distinctive floral, sweet flavor with a chewy texture. Origin: These raisins are made from Muscat grapes, a variety known for its fragrant, aromatic taste. Uses: Ideal for snacking, in desserts, or in Mediterranean dishes. 4. Currants (Zante Currants) Appearance: Tiny, dark purple or black raisins, almost like miniature versions of regular raisins. Taste and Texture: They have a tart, slightly tangy flavor with a chewy texture. Origin: Despite the name, they are not true currants. They come from a small variety of grape known as the "Black Corinth" grape, mostly grown in Greece. Uses: Common in baking (like in scones or cakes), as toppings for salads, or in Middle Eastern dishes. 5. Black Raisins Appearance: These are deep, dark purple or black in color with a wrinkled surface. Taste and Texture: Sweet with a firm texture and less juicy than sultanas. Origin: Grown mainly in California and other regions around the world. Uses: Black raisins are often used in traditional recipes, savory stews, or as a snack. 6. Red Raisins Appearance: They are a reddish-brown or burgundy color and usually have a soft, plump shape. Taste and Texture: These raisins are sweet and moist, with a chewy texture. Origin: They are produced from red grape varieties and are often less common than other types of raisins. Uses: Can be used for snacking, baking, or as a topping for oatmeal and salads.
