Shreenath Laboratories Consultants Private Limited (SLCPL), Rajkot, Gujarat, provides professional Half Cell Potential Testing Services for assessing the probability of corrosion activity in reinforcement steel embedded in reinforced concrete structures. The Half Cell Potential Test is a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) method used to evaluate the electrochemical potential of uncoated reinforcing steel and identify areas having a higher probability of reinforcement corrosion.
The testing is carried out in accordance with IS 516 (Part 5/Sec 2):2021 Hardened Concrete Methods of Test Part 5: Non-Destructive Testing Section 2: Half-Cell Potentials of Uncoated Reinforcing Steel in Concrete (First Revision). The standard specifies the objective, principle, apparatus, test procedure, test conditions and general guidance for interpretation of half-cell potential measurements.
During the test, the embedded reinforcement is electrically connected to a high-impedance voltmeter and the potential difference is measured using a suitable reference electrode placed at selected locations on the concrete surface. Readings are taken systematically over the test area and may be used to prepare a half-cell potential/corrosion potential map to identify zones with different levels of corrosion probability.
Our Half Cell Potential Testing services are suitable for RCC buildings, bridges, flyovers, industrial structures, parking structures, concrete slabs, beams, columns, foundations, water-retaining structures, marine structures and other reinforced concrete structures.
The test can be combined with Concrete Resistivity, Rebound Hammer Test, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), Carbonation Depth Test and Chloride Content Testing for comprehensive assessment of concrete durability and reinforcement corrosion.
