ITT, a global leader in water pumping solutions wanted to develop an appropriate product for small and marginal farmers in India. It wanted to test one of its products for the first time in the Indian Market. It was a manual portable pump with 1-2 HP capacity and could lift water from maximum depth of 20 feet. It approached MART to conduct a study to understand the irrigation needs of small and marginal farmers based on which the company would design an appropriate product. MART further delegated Farms and Farmers (FnF) to execute the study at farmers' level in Bihar. In accordance with the instructions given by MART, FnF identified five small and marginal farmers and studied their response after three different trials.Purpose of the project was to study the different aspects of the developed product and convey the irrigation needs and demands of small and marginal farmers to manufacturers. During the project, representatives MART as well Xylem came for inspection of the work done by FnF.
